The beautiful weigela ‘Rubidol’ (Weigela florida) is a variety distinguished by exceptionally decorative flowering and an elegant habit. Its greatest advantage is the large, funnel‑shaped flowers in an intense deep pink shade, appearing abundantly in late spring. This shrub brings vivid colour and natural lightness to the garden while remaining easy to care for.

Appearance and characteristics ‘Rubidol’ grows to 1.5–2 metres in height, forming wide, dense shrubs with an attractive shape.

  • The inner shoots are stiff and upright,

  • while the outer ones arch gracefully, giving the plant a slightly cascading look.

The leaves are elliptical, bright green, with clearly serrated edges. The flowers, grouped in clusters, reach about 4 cm in length and stand out with their deep pink colour, sometimes with a subtle reddish tint.

Flowering period ‘Rubidol’ blooms in the second half of May, with peak flowering usually occurring between late May and early June. Under favourable conditions, it may bloom again at the end of summer.

Cultivation and requirements This variety performs well in most gardens. It grows best:

  • in bright locations with plenty of diffused light,

  • in fertile, humus‑rich, moderately moist soil,

  • in well‑drained substrates without standing water.

The shrub is frost‑resistant, and its care mainly involves pruning. It is recommended to cut back shoots that have flowered to encourage new bud formation and ensure more abundant flowering the following season. Planting is possible from spring to autumn, with spacing of around 150 cm.

Garden use ‘Rubidol’ works perfectly:

  • as a solitary shrub,

  • in groups of ornamental shrubs,

  • in compositions with mock oranges, forsythias or buddleias,

  • as part of loose hedges,

  • near paths, on lawns and around small garden architecture.

Thanks to its intense flowering and elegant form, it is an excellent choice for home gardens, parks and urban greenery.
