Flowering – white cascades of blooms

One of the greatest advantages of ‘Grefsheim’ is its spectacular spring flowering. From April to May, numerous small white flowers appear on last year’s shoots, gathered in delicate clusters. During peak bloom, the shrub looks as if covered in white foam, making it one of the most striking spring features in the garden. The flowers are rich in nectar and attract bees and other pollinating insects.

Garden use

‘Grefsheim’ is a highly versatile shrub suitable for many landscape designs, including:

  • low hedges and natural borders,

  • slopes and group plantings,

  • naturalistic and cottage gardens,

  • rock gardens,

  • containers and terrace arrangements,

  • background plantings for perennials and medium‑sized shrubs.

Its fountain‑like shape and early flowering make it one of the most beautiful spring ornamentals.

Growing conditions and care

Grey spirea ‘Grefsheim’ is extremely easy to grow, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners.

Key requirements:

  • Light: full sun or partial shade

  • Soil: fertile, humus‑rich, well‑drained, moderately moist; tolerates typical garden soils

  • Hardiness: fully frost‑resistant; tolerates drought and air pollution

  • Pruning: not necessary, but well tolerated; best done right after flowering to preserve next year’s buds
