The Senga Sengana strawberry is a classic, well‑known variety with intensely red flesh, exceptional aroma and juiciness. It has long been considered one of the best strawberries for processing — perfect for freezing, jams and juices, while also delicious when eaten fresh. The plants produce abundant yields, making this variety popular among both commercial growers and home gardeners.

Ripening time A mid‑late variety. Fruits usually ripen from mid‑June to early July, depending on local climate and seasonal weather conditions.

Fruit – size, appearance and taste The fruits are large, though they may become smaller toward the end of the season. The skin is deep red and glossy, with a regular conical shape and a slight narrowing near the stem. The stem detaches very easily.

The flesh is:

  • deep red,

  • moderately firm,

  • very juicy,

  • intensely aromatic and sweet.

This variety is not suitable for long storage or transport — it tastes best fresh or immediately processed.

Yield Senga Sengana is a high‑yielding variety, producing abundant crops from each plant.

Plant characteristics Plants grow with medium vigor and form a slightly spreading habit.

Resistance The variety shows strong resistance to:

  • root system diseases,

  • soil nematodes (Aphelenchoides fragariae),

  • frost and temporary drought.

Preventive protection is recommended against:

  • leaf spot (Mycosphaerella fragariae),

  • grey mould (Botrytis cinerea),

  • strawberry mite (Phytonemus pallidus).

Use A primarily industrial variety, excellent for:

  • freezing,

  • jams,

  • purees,

  • juices.

Also suitable for home gardens due to its rich flavour and aroma.

Cultivation Ideal for both commercial and amateur cultivation. The variety is undemanding and performs well in Central European climates.
