A beautiful, perennial shrub with an upright and spreading habit. It grows up to 2-3 m. The leaves are covered with white felt on the underside and fall off in winter. It is called the butterfly bush, as the beautiful and intense fragrance of its flowers attracts butterflies, which densely cover the flower clusters. It requires winter protection.
The Buddleia blooms from June to October on this year's shoots. A characteristic feature of the flower is the orange "eye" in the center. The target height is up to 2 m.
The plant is easy to establish and does not require special care procedures. When bought in a pot, it can be planted when the soil is not frozen (practically from March to November). The shrub grows well in well-drained, fertile, clayey-sandy, slightly moist soil with a pH close to neutral. During dry periods, the Buddleia requires watering.
The position should be sunny and warm, as Buddleia is not fully frost-resistant. Before winter, the plant should be covered, preferably by mounding soil, bark, sawdust, or leaves at the base of the shrub.
Buddleia grows very quickly, and even if all of its above-ground parts freeze, it can still bloom abundantly in the same year. During the growing season, the shrub should be fertilized 2-3 times with fertilizers for flowering plants. In early spring, before the plant begins its growth cycle, a strong cut to about 20 cm above the ground is recommended. Buddleia pruned this way will branch well and bloom profusely.
