Its leaves are golden-yellow with a distinctive green stripe in the center, arching gracefully towards the ground. The most intense coloration appears in full sun.
It flowers from late April to May, although the flowers are not highly ornamental. Male flowers are short and brown, while the female flowers are green and appear slightly above the male ones on the same inflorescence.
Sedges are undemanding plants. They prefer moist, well-drained soil but also tolerate average garden soil and a wide range of pH. The best site is semi-shaded and sheltered from wind, though it also performs well in full sun if the soil remains constantly moist. It tolerates shade and is fully frost-hardy. Suitable for planting near water as well.
