An interesting sedge variety due to its characteristic palm-like leaf arrangement, with leaves emerging directly from the stem. It originates from the moist, bright forests of North America, where it forms dense clumps. The leaves are relatively broad and short, densely arranged along tall stems, and feature a distinctive white to cream stripe. The plant reaches up to 60–80 cm in height. It blooms from June to August with attractive brown to black ornamental spikes. Naturally growing in wet meadows, it prefers sunny but moist spots in the garden (although it also tolerates drier locations) and partial shade. This variety is resistant to diseases, frost-hardy, and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 40°C. It is a perennial, very easy to grow, and remains decorative throughout the year. After the first frosts, simply cover the plant on the bed with a layer of leaves, bark, or pine branches.
