Carex buchananii 'Firefox' reaches a mature height of 50–60 cm. It has slender, reddish-brown leaves that are long and upright, with twisted tips, and they do not dry out in winter. It prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position and fresh, well-drained, moist, humus-rich soil. Winter protection is required: the base should be mulched with bark, and containers should be wrapped with fleece or insulated with polystyrene. This plant is recommended for planting in home gardens. It should be placed against a backdrop of colorful plants. It looks great in gravel gardens and near garden ponds. It can also be grown in containers on balconies.
