PRAIRIE FIRE is a grass with very thin leaves, green at the base and from the middle upwards turning a fiery orange (brick‑like) colour. The leaf tips are characteristically twisted. It grows up to 45 cm in height.
This sedge is not demanding; it prefers moist, well‑drained soil. The position should be warm or semi‑shaded, sheltered from strong and cold winds. The grass is not fully frost‑resistant, so it is advisable to cover it for winter, especially young plants. Spruce branches, dry leaves or sawdust can be used. Remember that excessive moisture in winter is harmful — the roots begin to rot and the plant dies.
This sedge is suitable for planting in containers on terraces or balconies, as well as in gravel gardens and rockeries.
