The 'Ferdinand Pichard' variety is one of the best roses with striped, round flowers. Its color is a mix of vibrant pink and cream. It is recommended for planting in containers as well as for creating informal hedges. It does not tolerate shade and is highly resistant to fungal diseases. It grows best in clay-sandy soil with a high content of humus. The soil should have a pH of 6.5.
Conditions and requirements – this variety requires sunny positions. In shaded areas, it blooms very poorly. The Ferdinand Pichard rose is easy to grow. For strong growth and abundant blooming, it needs a sunny spot and well-fertilized, moist soils. It is frost-resistant.
Care – the climbing rose should be planted 20 cm away from the support, which the bush will climb to protect the roots from drying out. The planting density of plants should be between 60 cm and 1 m apart. The rose's shoots can climb up a pergola or a tree by attaching themselves with thorns. However, they often require tying the shoots to the support.
The climbing variety should be pruned heavily every year, removing faded shoots and long, thin branches growing at the base of the bush. To stimulate branching, it is recommended to shorten some two-year-old shoots by half. This will encourage the plant to grow faster and produce new shoots.
The variety is resistant to fungal diseases and low temperatures up to -34°C. It grows well in Polish conditions. Young specimens may require earthing up at the base of the bushes and covering the shoots for the winter.
Uses – As a richly blooming climbing plant, it is perfect for various supports, trellises, pergolas, or along building walls and fences. It creates dense green walls in these places. The variety can also be planted in containers, making it an excellent decoration for balconies and terraces.
