The 'Ferdinand Pichard' variety is one of the best roses with striped, round flowers. Its color is a blend of vibrant pink and cream. It is recommended for planting in containers and for creating informal hedges. It does not tolerate shade and is very resistant to fungal diseases. It grows best in clayey-sandy soil with a high humus content. The soil should have a pH of 6.5.
Conditions and requirements – the variety requires sunny positions. In shaded areas, it blooms very poorly. The 'Ferdinand Pichard' rose is low-maintenance. For strong growth and abundant flowering, it needs a sunny spot and well-fertilized, moist soil. It is frost-resistant.
Care – the climbing rose should be planted 20 cm away from the support, which the bush will climb to protect the roots from drying out. The plant density should range from 60 cm to 1 m apart. The rose's stems can climb up a pergola or tree, attaching themselves with thorns. However, they often require tying the stems to the support.
The climbing variety should be pruned heavily every year, removing faded stems and thin, long branches growing at the base of the bush. To stimulate branching, it is recommended to shorten some two-year-old stems by half. This will encourage the plant to grow faster and produce new stems.
The variety is resistant to fungal diseases and low temperatures down to -34°C. It grows well in Polish conditions. Young specimens may require mound covering at the base of the bushes and protecting the stems in winter.
Uses – As a vigorously blooming climbing plant, it works well with various supports, trellises, pergolas, or along building walls and fences. It creates dense green walls in these places. The variety can also be planted in containers, making it a decoration for balconies and terraces.
