An azalea with a compact habit. After 10 years, it grows to 50 cm in height and about 80 cm in width. It has large, dark green leaves that do not fall in winter. The flowers are purple-violet with a dark violet interior. It blooms in the second half of May. The plant is quite frost-resistant. It prefers a semi-shaded position, but also does well in the sun. The position should be sheltered from strong and cold winds. The soil should be fertile, moderately moist, humus-rich, and acidic.
The Rhododendron (Azalea) 'Koningstein' is suitable for planting in home gardens, rock gardens, heathland gardens, flower beds, etc.
Flowering: The leaves are 7 to 9 cm long, dark green and glossy on the top, bare on both sides. The flowers are bell-shaped, scarlet red, with a delicate brown pattern on the upper petal, slightly wavy at the edges, 4.5 to 5.5 cm in diameter, collected in loose, terminal clusters of 3-6 flowers. It blooms relatively early, at the end of April and in the first decade of May.
Care: It requires semi-shaded or shaded positions and acidic, moderately moist, and humus-rich soils. When planting in full sun, it is necessary to use more peat in the substrate and maintain humidity to ensure more abundant blooming and optimal growth.
