Rhododendron ‘Nova Zembla’ is a beautifully blooming, evergreen, long-lived shrub that grows up to 2–3 m. It is characterized by bell-shaped flowers up to several centimeters long, grouped in inflorescences (even dozens of individual flowers). Rhododendrons should be planted in slightly shaded, wind-protected locations. They should be planted in acidic, humus-rich, and well-drained soil. Plant rhododendrons in spring and water them regularly.
Application: Perfectly suited for home gardens, parks, or heathlands.
Blooming: Flowers are ruby-red in color, with a distinct brownish-red pattern on the upper petal, wide-funnel-shaped, 6 to 7 cm in diameter, grouped 13-17 per cluster in spherical, dense, terminal inflorescences. It blooms reliably every year from the second half of May. The leaves are dark green, glossy, slightly wavy on the edges, and do not fall off in winter, but may curl into a roll due to cold.
Care: Requires semi-shaded or shaded locations and acidic, moderately moist, and humus-rich soils. When planted in full sun, a greater amount of peat should be used in the substrate, and moisture should be maintained to ensure more abundant flowering and optimal growth. It is good to plant them in groups. They can grow under large shrubs.
