€6.99

It is a hybrid of Passiflora Caerulea and Amethystina, with dark blue/dark purple flowers and petals tinged with a lavender shade. It has dark green, deeply lobed, heart-shaped leaves that are semi-evergreen. It is a fast-growing, perennial vine that serves as an original, exotic decoration for pergolas, balconies, fences, and garden borders. The vine originates from the tropical forests of Brazil and Argentina. It is also suitable for pot cultivation, growing up to 3 meters tall. It prefers sunny and warm positions in summer. The plant is quite easy to grow but sensitive to low temperatures. It tolerates up to -5°C. Before winter, the plant should be moved to a room with a temperature of 8-12°C. To stimulate its growth, it should be pruned in February above the 5-8th node.

Application: This plant is recommended for cultivation along fences, in containers on terraces or balconies, and in winter gardens. It clings to supports using tendrils. When grown against walls, supports are necessary. It produces edible fruits called passionfruit, rich in vitamin C, with pulp used for making juices, jellies, smoothies, and delicious fruit cocktails.

Blooming and fruiting: The flowers are flat, with dark pink petals and very decorative long white external filaments with colored rings. The corona is purple. The entire flower creates a beautiful contrast. It blooms from June to September. The flowers are mildly fragrant. The fruits, called passionfruit, are orange-yellow, round-shaped, and slightly sour.

Position: It requires sheltered, warm, sunny locations. It is best to plant it near south or west-facing walls. It needs strong sunlight.

Care: It requires fertile, moist, garden soil, well-drained. During hot summers, water the plant 1-2 times a week, keeping the root ball consistently moist. Frost damages the top shoots. The plant should be covered with straw in winter. Plants in containers should be stored in a warmer, bright room with temperatures between 5-12°C. With proper care, the plant can reach 1 meter in length within 6-8 months. During the dormant period, the leaves often fall off, but new shoots appear in spring. After dormancy, prune back to 4-8 buds and refresh the soil.

Pruning: Passionflower blooms abundantly on side shoots, so the main stem should be cut back earlier. It is recommended to cut off all frozen and unwanted shoots in April. By shortening the shoots by 1/3 of their length, you encourage faster growth.
