The 'Pumila' variety is a dwarf form of the popular pampas grass (Cortaderia), reaching up to 200 cm in height when in bloom. It features a striking plume of silvery-white flowers, rapid growth, and high vigor. It begins blooming even as a young plant, sometimes in the first year after planting. It forms dense clumps of stiff, flat, upright or arching dark green leaf blades. The plant blooms from late August to October with dense, white, fluffy panicles that remain decorative even after the growing season ends. The fluffiness comes from long, silky hairs at the base of the spike. The plant prefers fertile and moist soils but cannot tolerate excess moisture in winter. Before winter, leaves should be tied up, and the crown protected with straw, leaves, or sawdust. Pampas grass looks beautiful in any part of the garden and is recommended for planting in borders or ornamental grass gardens. The panicles are suitable for cut flowers and dried arrangements.
