The sessile oak is a European species. A tree with a broadly oval crown that expands with age. In nature, it reaches a height of 25–40 m. The trunk is straight and tall, often twisted with age. Leaves are glossy, dark green, obovate, up to 12 cm long, with 5–8 rounded lobes, light green underneath; in autumn they turn brown and yellow. It produces leaves slightly later than the pedunculate oak and retains foliage until late autumn. Acorns grow in sessile clusters. This species has low soil requirements. It grows best in sandy, dry, calcareous, and sunny locations. Suitable for creating tall windbreaks.
