The ornamental grass Heidebraut forms tall, compact clumps of leaves 45cm in height in a dark green shade. In August, stiff flower stems grow from the clump. These stems rise above the leaves and reach up to 140cm. The narrow panicle-like inflorescences are initially light-colored, later turning dark red. In autumn, the entire clump turns amber-colored and decorates the garden throughout winter.

Blue fescues prefer moist, sunny locations. They can also grow in partial shade, where it is easier to maintain moist soil. This grass prefers fertile, humus-rich soil with an acidic to neutral pH. Blue fescues are native grasses, making them fully frost-resistant in our climate. Care is limited to removing last year's spikes in spring.
