A low, attractive grass that naturally grows on pastures and wastelands in North America. It forms loose clumps of green, narrow, sharply pointed leaves, up to 1 cm wide and 10–30 cm long. In autumn, the leaves turn red. The low, airy inflorescences have an appealing pink‑purple color. They appear in August, creating a delicate cloud above the foliage. The grass is tolerant of various soil types but requires well‑drained, warm, dry or moderately moist substrates, and sunny or lightly shaded positions. It is frost‑resistant. Recommended for planting in groups, especially along the edges of flower beds. Suitable for container cultivation. It fits perfectly in naturalistic gardens, against stones, gravel, and other plants tolerant of harsher conditions.
