This perennial is valued both by lovers of modern compositions and naturalistic gardens. It tolerates occasional water shortages very well and blooms abundantly even in less fertile soils. Its flowers are an important source of nectar for bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects.
The variety stands out with its exceptionally intense flower colour, which lasts for many weeks. Its regular habit makes it look great both as a single specimen and planted in larger groups. It is frost‑resistant, easy to care for and copes well with summer heat.
Main advantages: ✔ long and abundant flowering ✔ strong, non‑lodging stems ✔ attractive to bees and butterflies ✔ drought tolerance ✔ low maintenance requirements ✔ full frost resistance
Appearance A mature plant reaches about 60 cm in height and forms compact clumps about 40 cm wide. Its leaves are elongated, slightly hairy and pleasantly fragrant when crushed. Above them rise numerous spike‑shaped inflorescences in an intense shade of purple with a hint of violet.
It looks most impressive from June to July, but after summer pruning it often reblooms and decorates borders until the end of the season.
Growing requirements One of the least demanding garden perennials. It grows best in sunny locations, where it produces the greatest number of flowers. It prefers well‑drained, moderately light soils but also performs well in average garden soil.
Watering is mainly needed for young plants and during prolonged droughts. Excess moisture is not recommended, as salvia tolerates dryness much better than waterlogging.
Care Even beginner gardeners will find it easy to grow. After the first flowering, it is worth cutting back all flower spikes. This encourages the plant to produce new shoots and often bloom again in the same season.
