The golden chain tree is a small tree or tall shrub from the legume family, reaching 4–6 m in height. It is grown mainly for its characteristic, extremely decorative flowers. It is a beautiful plant, but poisonous.

Use: It can be planted singly or in groups. When planted in rows, it creates the so-called “golden rain” effect. Suitable for training on arches, supports and pergolas. Due to the poisonous nature of the entire plant (leaves, flowers, seeds, sap), it should not be planted in places where children are present.

Flowering: May–June. Flowers are scentless, nectar-rich, golden-yellow, pea-shaped, gathered in dense hanging clusters 15–20 cm long. Leaves consist of three dark green leaflets arranged like clover. Seeds are the most poisonous part of the plant.

Care: Grows best in sunny, moist positions, sheltered from strong winds in winter. Requires fertile, alkaline soils. Can be fertilized with compost and mulched with bark.

Pruning: Does not require strong pruning; for maintenance purposes it can be pruned in late summer.
