Pennisetum glaucum ‘Purple Baron’ is an ornamental grass valued for its striking, oriental appearance. Its decorative effect comes from fluffy, spike-like inflorescences in an intense purple color, resembling soft, furry "catkins." In Polish conditions, it is grown as an annual, as it does not tolerate frost. It reaches 60–80 cm in height. The leaves are large, broad, similar to corn leaves, with a dark purple to violet hue. The fluffy flower spikes appear in late summer. It prefers warm, fully sunny locations and moderately moist to moist, humus-rich soils rich in calcium and nutrients. It is an excellent grass for rock gardens, Japanese-style gardens, and perennial beds. Also used in floral arrangements. It looks beautiful in containers on balconies and terraces.
