A variety of Japanese fountain grass with narrow, long leaves and impressive, brush-like inflorescences. Young plants reach about 1.2 m in height, while mature, well-developed clumps can grow up to 2 m tall. The inflorescences are spike-like, cylindrical panicles, initially dark purple, but they quickly turn black. It blooms in the second half of summer – usually in August – and the flowers remain until winter. This grass requires a sunny location, where its flowering is most abundant and decorative. It prefers moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Perfect for various applications such as residential gardens, oriental public greenery, or home gardens.
