An interesting ornamental grass variety, it grows to about 50–60 cm in height, and during flowering reaches around 100 cm. The leaves are dark green, narrow and slightly arching. In autumn they turn yellow and later beige. The inflorescences appear in the second half of summer — from August until the end of the growing season. The flowers are dark, in deep purple or even black shades. The grass blooms for a long time and very attractively.
This variety prefers sunny or lightly shaded positions. It does not like cold, strong winds. Like other grasses, it requires little care and is resistant to pests and diseases. It grows best in fertile, well‑drained, moderately moist soil. It needs warm, sheltered locations. Dead leaves should be cut back in early spring.
It is a frost‑resistant grass, although young plants should be covered for winter. During the growing season, the plants should be watered generously and fertilised. After a few years, it is advisable to divide the clumps to rejuvenate the plants.
