The 'Nova Serotina' honeysuckle is a perennial climbing plant with multicolored flowers. It can grow up to 2 meters in height. The plant climbs up supports by wrapping its shoots around them. This variety is highly frost-resistant. Its greatest asset is its flowers, which have the typical shape of the species but with a unique bi-coloration – purple-red. The 'Nova Serotina' honeysuckle has an intense fragrance, especially in the evening, and its fruits serve as decorative elements until winter. The 'Nova Serotina' variety has low requirements, high tolerance to conditions, and unquestionable aesthetic value. It thrives in sunny or partially shaded positions.

Flowering – at the beginning of June, multicolored, tubular flowers appear on the vines. Collected at the tips of the shoots, they form lush inflorescences. The flower buds have a dark, purple-red color before they bloom. In the evening and at night, the flowers emit a strong, pleasant fragrance. Honeysuckle 'Nova Serotina' blooms profusely from June to July.
The leaves, which are egg-shaped-elliptical, are arranged oppositely on the vines. Not only the flowers of this variety change color in different hues. The young shoots initially take on a pinkish hue, later turning green. The leaves are dark green on the top and slightly bluish underneath.

Ripening and fruiting – cherry-red, inedible fruits appear at the turn of September and October. They are shiny and round, resembling peas in size and appearance. They stay on the shoots until the first frosts.

Growing conditions and requirements – Honeysuckle 'Nova Serotina' is a plant with very low requirements. It tolerates almost any conditions and positions. However, it thrives best in sunny spots where it blooms profusely. 'Nova Serotina' can also be planted in partial shade. It grows well in fresh, humus-rich soils but can also be planted in regular garden soil. It is important that the soil is not too dry or acidic.

Care – This variety of honeysuckle is fully frost-resistant and tolerates Polish winters well. However, in harsh winters, it may freeze. Therefore, young plants should be covered for the winter in the first year after planting. 'Nova Serotina' does not require special care. It is enough to perform rejuvenating pruning every 5-6 years. To do this, only old, dry, or overly long shoots should be pruned. However, if the plant freezes after heavy frosts, damaged shoots should be cut back in the spring, as they quickly regenerate.
In the summer, when there are droughts or when the honeysuckle grows in a too sunny, dry location, young shoots may be attacked by aphids. If they appear, they should be controlled as they quickly infest the vines, causing distortion and discoloration of the flowers.

Use – Lonicera periclymenum 'Nova Serotina' is an impressive vine with many uses. It is best suited for fences, pergolas, trellises, lattice panels for gazebos, and all kinds of supports. It can also be planted in pots placed on balconies or terraces.
