Flowering – At the beginning of June, multicolored, tubular flowers appear on the vines. They gather at the tops of the shoots, forming lush inflorescences. The flower buds are dark purple-red before they open. In the evening and at night, the flowers emit a strong, pleasant fragrance. The Pomeranian honeysuckle 'Nova Serotina' blooms profusely from June to July.
The leaves, which are oval-elliptical in shape, are arranged oppositely on the vines. Not only the flowers of this variety change colors. The young shoots initially have a pink tint, later turning green. The leaves are dark green on the top and slightly bluish on the underside.

Maturation and fruiting – At the turn of September and October, cherry-red inedible fruits appear. They are shiny and spherical, resembling peas in appearance and size. They stay on the shoots until the first frosts.

Growing conditions and requirements – The 'Nova Serotina' honeysuckle is a plant with very low requirements. It tolerates almost all conditions and positions. However, it thrives best in sunny locations where it blooms profusely. 'Nova Serotina' can also be planted in partial shade. It grows well in fresh, humus-rich soils but can also be planted in ordinary garden soil. It is important that the soil is not too dry or acidic.

Care – This variety of Pomeranian honeysuckle is fully frost-resistant and copes well with Polish winters. However, in severe winters, it may freeze. Therefore, young plants should be covered in the first year after planting. 'Nova Serotina' requires no special care treatments. It is enough to carry out rejuvenation pruning every 5-6 years. For this purpose, only old, dry, or excessively long shoots should be pruned. However, if the plant freezes after a severe frost, damaged shoots should be cut back heavily in spring, as they regrow quickly.
During dry periods or when the honeysuckle grows in an overly sunny, dry location, young shoots may be attacked by aphids. If they appear, they should be controlled as they quickly infest the vines and cause deformations and discolorations of the flowers.

Uses – Lonicera periclymenum 'Nova Serotina' is an impressive climber with many uses. It is particularly suitable for fences, pergolas, trellises, openwork garden walls, and all kinds of supports. It can also be planted in pots on balconies or terraces.
