A beautiful variety growing in the form of a shrub reaching up to 2.5 meters in height. The flowers are large, double, with slightly frilled petals in a violet-pink color with a purple center. The leaves are dark green, slightly wavy, maintaining their intense color throughout the season. It prefers a warm, sunny, and wind-sheltered location. The hibiscus needs regular watering as it does not tolerate drought.
The soil should be fertile, moderately moist, with a neutral or alkaline pH.
Conditions and requirements – For growing the Ardens Syrian hibiscus, it is best to choose a sunny, warm, and wind-sheltered location. It grows well in fertile, humus-rich, and well-drained soil with a pH ranging from slightly acidic to alkaline. The shrub requires a moderately moist position. When planted in poor soils, the shrub blooms very poorly.
Care – The shrub requires consistent but moderate watering. During drought, brown spots may appear on the leaves. The Ardens Syrian hibiscus is a slow-growing variety and does not require pruning. It is recommended to perform rejuvenating pruning in March or April, removing old shoots. The Syrian hibiscus is a heat-loving plant and is not very frost-resistant. Therefore, during the winter, the shrubs require covering. Young shrubs are most susceptible to freezing. To protect the plant, a mound of dry leaves or needles should be placed at the base of the shrub and the soil should be mounded to about 30 cm high. During the blooming period, it is recommended to fertilize the shrubs, preferably with organic fertilizers.
Use – Due to its abundant, long blooming and especially beautiful flowers, the Ardens Syrian hibiscus is best planted in prominent places in gardens and parks. It is also suitable as a potted plant, which allows it to decorate balconies and terraces.
It looks particularly impressive when planted alone or in groups with other plants. It is successfully used as an informal hedge.
