Grape Vine 'Adalmiina'

€5.99

This is a hybrid with a significant contribution from American grapevines, particularly the Labrusca variety. The vines grow moderately vigorously, with an upright and regular habit. Shoots lignify early along their entire length, which makes them easy to train, but they require stable support during periods of strong growth. This variety is characterized by very high resistance to frost and fungal diseases. Thanks to this, it can be grown without chemical protection. It is an undemanding and tolerant cultivar that adapts very well to the Polish climate. It prefers a sunny, warm location sheltered from strong and cold winds. The best soil for grapes is fertile, sandy-loamy, and slightly moist.

Flowering – an early-flowering grapevine variety. Small light-colored flowers appear as early as May. It is self-pollinating. Leaves are medium-sized, 3-lobed, slightly serrated with shallow lateral sinuses. In summer they are intensely green, turning golden-yellow in autumn.

Ripening and fruiting – Adalmiina ripens early, in the first half of September. Clusters are medium-sized with loosely set large berries weighing around 160 g. The fruits are spherical with a light green-yellow skin. The flesh is delicate and sweet.

Conditions and requirements – this variety requires a sunny or slightly shaded position. It is important that the site is well sheltered from wind. The plant is tolerant of different soils. It grows best in sandy soils with moderate moisture and prefers neutral to slightly acidic pH.

Care – this moderately growing variety does not tend to grow excessively and therefore does not require specialized pruning. To ensure high-quality yields, from April to June, the plant can be fertilized monthly with a multi-component mineral fertilizer until the first fruits begin to form. Adalmiina develops an extensive root system and is drought tolerant. When grown in sandy soils, it requires regular watering during prolonged dry periods, especially during fruit development. Young, newly planted vines require particular attention.
Adalmiina is highly frost-resistant and withstands temperatures down to -35°C. However, for added protection, in late autumn, young plants can be covered with a 30 cm mound of soil to protect the roots and base of the vine.

Use – Adalmiina is a processing variety, meaning its fruits are used for wine production. The sweet grapes are also perfect as an addition to desserts and cakes. Wines made from this variety are moderately extractive, refreshing, and slightly mineral. When young, they have citrus aromas such as grapefruit and lime. With time, they develop flavors of ripe apple and pear.
Thanks to its high resistance and low requirements, it can be successfully grown both in professional vineyards and home gardens.
