The ‘Johanniter’ variety originates from Germany and was created in 1968. Named in honour of Dr Johannes Zimmermann, former director of the Freiburg Institute. It is frost-resistant in our climate zone (down to -24°C). Fruits grow in compact clusters; bunches are medium-sized, with light-coloured berries suitable for fresh eating and winemaking. This grapevine prefers a warm, sunny site sheltered from cold, strong winds. The best soil for grapes is fertile, sandy-loamy and slightly moist.

Use: This variety is worth planting in the Polish climate, especially in warmer regions. In colder areas, it may ripen only in select favourable locations.
Ripening: Early October.
Care: At the beginning of November, mound the soil (peat) over the vines, creating a 30 cm high mound to protect the lowest buds. In the first year after planting, grow the vine on a single shoot. Pruning in subsequent years depends on the training system chosen for the vineyard.
Planting: Plant 10–15 cm deeper than it grew in the pot. Smaller plants should be planted in a shallow pit and covered with soil only in autumn, which significantly increases frost resistance.
