“Pinot Blanc” is a productive, fast-growing grapevine variety, the white counterpart of the classic Pinot Noir. It is frost-resistant and well-suited for cultivation in colder climates. Prefers warm, sunny locations sheltered from strong and cold winds. Grows best in fertile, sandy-loamy, and slightly moist soil.
Flowering: Pinot Blanc blooms as early as May. The small, pale flowers are gathered in panicles usually 10–20 cm long.
Ripening and fruiting: In Polish conditions, it ripens late—in October. The clusters are small, but the flesh is soft, sweet, and colorless. Leaves are medium-sized, light green, with three or five gentle lobes.
Conditions and requirements: Requires a sunny and sheltered site. Pinot Blanc prefers deep, calcareous, moderately fertile, and relatively warm soils with a slightly acidic pH. Avoid planting in very dry, shallow, poor, heavy, cold, or overly fertile soils, as the plant may grow and fruit poorly.
Care: Frost-resistant variety, tolerates temperatures down to -20°C. Spring pruning to 6–12 buds is recommended for quicker regeneration, stronger growth, and better yields.
Use: Pinot Blanc usually has a fruity aroma. In vineyards, it is used for producing wines with designation of origin. Pinot Blanc wines are high-quality, extract-rich, with harmonious acidity, a delicate bouquet (ripe pear, peach, hazelnuts), and a greenish hue. In good years, it produces exceptional wines that age well in bottles. A classic among white wines.
