'Rondo' is a dark-fruited grape variety used to produce red wine. It originates from Germany and the Czech Republic and is a cross between Zarya Severa and Saint Laurent. The vine grows to about 1–1.5 m in height and is characterized by vigorous growth and high yield. Rondo is frost-resistant down to approx. -23°C and has moderate resistance to fungal diseases. The wine is of very good quality, with a beautiful ruby color and a pleasant cherry aroma. Rondo can also be eaten fresh.
Ripening: Early ripening variety, typically harvested for winemaking in mid-September. The fruits are medium-sized and dark blue. Leaves are large and fairly stiff.
Care: In early November, mound soil (or peat) around the base of the plant, forming a mound about 30 cm high to protect the lower buds. In the first year, train the plant to one main shoot. In subsequent years, pruning depends on your chosen training method.
Planting: Plant 10–15 cm deeper than it grew in the pot. Smaller vines should be planted in a shallow depression and covered with soil in autumn. This planting method significantly increases frost resistance.
