'Hinnonmaki Gelb' gooseberry originates from Finland. It is a yellow-fruited gooseberry variety recommended for amateur cultivation. Due to its spreading growth habit, it is not suitable for mechanical harvesting and is therefore rarely grown commercially.
Because of its fruit color, it is referred to as yellow gooseberry. The fruits ripen in mid-July, are medium-sized, with a juicy, tasty, sweet and sour flesh. They are best suited for fresh consumption, but also for preserves and freezing.
This variety is easy to grow, frost-resistant and tolerant to American gooseberry mildew. The shrubs grow moderately vigorously, reaching a height of 1–2 meters, with shoots covered entirely in small spines.
It yields best on moderately moist, humus-rich and fertile soils with a slightly acidic pH. The site should be sunny; otherwise, the fruits will be small and sour. The shrubs are usually grafted onto golden currant rootstocks.
