Crataegus monogyna
A small, attractive tree during flowering and fruiting. The crown is initially columnar, regular, and very narrow, with all shoots growing upright. It reaches 5–9 m in height. Leaves are small, 3–5 lobed, dark green, glossy, turning yellow and brown in autumn. Flowers are white and fragrant, appearing in May–June. Fruits are spherical, dark red, 8–9 mm, fleshy drupes, edible, sweet in taste, and popular with birds. This species is resistant to pollution and dry air. It prefers calcareous, deep, nutrient-rich soils but also grows on poorer ones. Suitable for sunny and semi-shaded sites.
