Common Fig 'Brown Turkey' / Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey'

One of the most interesting varieties due to its heavy flowering and vitality. This large shrub or small tree reaches 2–3 m in height and is a self-pollinating, highly productive variety. Seedling height: 15–20 cm.

Use: In Polish climate conditions, the fig tree should be grown in a container on a terrace or balcony for the first 2–3 years. The pot can also be sunk into the ground.

Flowering and fruiting: Flowers appear before the leaves develop, with small yellow flowers blooming in March–April. The fruits are very large, purplish-brown with pink flesh, and have a distinct, strong flavor. The leaves are also ornamental—very large, slightly concave, and deeply lobed. Fruits ripen by the end of September and can grow large with proper fertilization.

Care: Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot. Soil requirements: prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil with plenty of nutrients. Be careful not to over-fertilize, as this can reduce fruit yield. Proper watering is essential during the growing season, but should be reduced during fruit ripening to prevent cracking. After 2–3 years, when the trunk thickens, the plant can be transplanted into the ground. If planted in the ground, it must be well protected for winter by covering the base with bark and the shoots with garden fleece. Potted plants should be moved to a bright, cool place where temperatures do not fall below 5°C. Avoid overwatering in winter.

Pruning: Can be pruned in spring. Avoid pruning in autumn, as the plant may start to bleed sap during this period.
