An attractive, abundantly flowering shrub reaching 2–3 m in height. Easy to grow, it performs well in average soils and tolerates urban polluted air. ‘Strawberry Fields’ is not fully frost‑hardy and may suffer winter damage, but it regenerates beautifully after pruning. The plant produces stiff, upright shoots that in June become covered with flowers. The flower buds, before opening, are dark pink and resemble wild strawberries — which inspired the name of the variety. The flowers are large, star‑shaped, dark pink with a white edge and a yellow stamen in the centre. The shrub also has elongated, dark green leaves with characteristic coarse hairs on the underside. It blooms profusely throughout June. Since flower buds form on two‑year‑old and older shoots, the shrub should not be pruned; if necessary, only old, weak or diseased stems are removed as sanitary pruning.
