An attractive, abundantly flowering shrub reaching 2–3 m in height. Easy to grow, it tolerates average soils and urban polluted air well. Although not fully frost-hardy and sometimes damaged by frost, it regenerates beautifully after pruning. It produces stiff, upright shoots covered with flowers in June.
The flower buds are dark pink before opening, resembling strawberries – hence the name of the variety. The large, star-shaped flowers are dark pink with white edges and yellow stamens in the centre. The shrub also has elongated dark green leaves with a characteristic rough hairiness on the underside. It blooms profusely throughout June.
Since flower buds develop on two-year-old and older shoots, pruning is not recommended. If necessary, only old, weak or diseased shoots should be removed as sanitary pruning.
