Uses: Perfect for climbing pergolas, fences, walls, gazebos, trellises, and natural supports such as coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, and subshrubs. It also grows excellently in large containers on balconies, terraces, and in small gardens.
Flowering: May–June and again July–September. Exposure: Any.
Care: Plant 5 cm deeper than it grew in the pot and at least 30 cm away from other plants or walls. Mulch the soil around the plant with bark. Shade the base with low-growing plants and, before winter, cover with bark up to 10–20 cm high. Grows best in fertile, humus-rich, calcium-rich (pH 6–7), well-drained soil. Fertilize from April and water generously during the growing season.
Pruning: Spring flowering occurs on last year’s shoots. At the turn of February and March, remove dead and diseased stems; healthy stems should be lightly pruned: • 1st year – to 30 cm above ground, • 2nd year – to 70 cm, • following years – to about 150 cm.
