A very early and profusely flowering botanical variety with small semi‑double, dark‑violet flowers. In autumn it becomes covered with decorative, fluffy seed heads. The plant is extremely frost hardy and low‑maintenance, making it ideal for cultivation in Central European climates.
Uses: Climbs beautifully over pergolas, fences, walls, gazebos, trellises, and natural supports such as coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, and subshrubs. Also excellent as a groundcover plant.
Flowering: Very early — from April until the end of May, and again in August.
Exposure: Any aspect.
Care: Plant 5 cm deeper than it grew in the pot and at least 30 cm away from other plants or walls. Mulch the soil around the plant with bark. Shade the base with low shrubs or perennials, and before winter mound bark around the base to a height of 10–20 cm. It grows best in fertile, humus‑rich, airy soils rich in calcium (pH 6–7). Fertilize from April and water generously during the growing season.
Pruning: Not pruned at all, as it flowers on old wood. To limit growth, prune only after flowering, never lower than 1 m above ground.
