A very interesting and relatively fast-growing variety bred in New Zealand. Grows up to 3 m tall with large scarlet flowers and very dark stamens. Cold- and disease-resistant.
Use: Climbs beautifully on pergolas, fences, walls, arbors, trellises, and natural supports such as coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, and bushes.
Flowering: July to end of September.
Position: Any location.
Care: Plant 5–10 cm deeper than in the pot and at least 30 cm from other plants, walls, or trees. Mulch the soil around the plant with bark. In winter, cover the base with a mound of soil or bark about 10–20 cm high to protect the roots. Clematis prefers fertile, humus-rich, permeable soil with high calcium content. Fertilize intensively from April until the end of the growing season.
Pruning: Blooms on current-year growth. Prune hard in February or March. In the first year, cut to 30 cm above the ground, 40 cm in the second year, and 50 cm in subsequent years.
