Frost-resistant and low-maintenance. Prefers sunny, warm, or semi-shaded, wind-sheltered spots. Soil should be fertile, humus-rich, well-drained, and moist, pH 6.0–7.0.

Use: Climbs beautifully on pergolas, fences, walls, arbors, trellises, and natural supports such as coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, and subshrubs. Thrives in large containers on balconies, terraces, and in small gardens.
Flowering: June to October.
Position: East, West, North.
Care: Plant 5 cm deeper than in the pot and at least 30 cm from other plants or walls. Mulch the soil around the plant with bark. Shade the base with low plants, and cover with bark to 10–20 cm before winter. Best in fertile, humus-rich, calcium-rich (pH 6–7), and well-aerated soil. Fertilize from April, and water generously during the growing season.
Pruning: Blooms on last year’s shoots — prune lightly in late February to March. First year: 30 cm above ground, second year: 70 cm, following years: 150 cm.
