This is one of the first varieties of clematis, which has golden-yellow leaves. The purple-blue flowers create a striking contrast with the leaf color. It can be used as a groundcover or climbing plant. It reaches a height of 2–3 m. It is particularly useful for planting near trees, old trunks, deciduous or coniferous shrubs. The plant prefers a sunny, warm or partially shaded location that is sheltered from cold and strong winds. The soil should be fertile, rich in humus, well‑draining and moist, with a pH of 6.0–7.0.
