'Little Zebra' is an American variety selected by Hortec Inc/Thomas M. Walsh in 1995. This ornamental grass has a slow growth habit and features cross-striped leaves. It is a dwarf variety reaching only 0.6–1 m in height (with a similar width). It is characterized by a very dense habit and narrow, arching leaves. It flowers from September to October. The inflorescences are loose panicles, initially reddish-brown, turning grey-beige by the end of flowering. The leaves are narrower and hang evenly down to the ground. Miscanthus grows best in moderately moist, fertile soil in sunny or lightly shaded positions. Its rhizomes are short, so it grows in compact clumps for many years, becoming denser each season. This grass looks best planted in groups or individually among perennials or lower ornamental grasses. It is perfect for larger garden compositions, naturalistic landscapes, near water features, or as a hedge. It is also ideal for planting in containers on terraces or balconies.
