Chinese Miscanthus is a unique variety because the shape of its leaves resembles a small fountain, and its flower heads are also exceptional, growing up to 150 cm and are very fluffy. 'Herman Mussel' blooms at the end of summer, but its growth begins as early as May, and its rapid growth makes it look beautiful already by June. Its large, silvery-white flower heads attract attention and are an amazing decoration. The plumes of the grass remain until spring, making it look almost fairy-tale-like in the winter garden.

The ornamental grass prefers fertile and moderately moist soil. It thrives in a warm, sunny location. It also tolerates slightly shaded areas, but care must be taken as too much shade will cause the plant to pale, send out elongated shoots, and eventually die. Miscanthus is frost-resistant, but young plants should be covered for the winter, e.g., with sawdust, dry leaves, or coniferous branches.
