Chinese Magnolia Vine ‘Sadova No1’ (Schisandra chinensis) is a Ukrainian, self‑pollinating variety that produces larger and more numerous fruits than the basic species. The plant forms a vigorous ornamental and functional climber reaching up to 10 m in height, making it ideal for fences, gazebos, and pergolas. In East Asian countries, Schisandra is considered one of the most valuable medicinal plants. In China it is known as wu‑wei‑zi – “the fruit of five flavours”, referring to the unique taste profile of its berries. Health properties of Schisandra The fruits are valued for their broad health‑supporting effects. They contain vitamin C, carotene, organic acids, and tocopherol (vitamin E). In traditional medicine they are believed to support brain function and concentration, benefit the liver, provide stimulating and strengthening effects, and support the respiratory system. Cultivation of Schisandra ‘Sadova No1’ The plant is frost‑resistant and tolerates Central European climates well. It usually begins fruiting after 4–6 years. It prefers fertile, moist but not waterlogged soil. It grows best in lightly shaded or sunny locations with stable supports.
