Productivity and fruiting – up to 7–8 kg of berries per shrub

Denise Blue is known for its exceptional yield. Under good conditions, one shrub can produce 7–8 kg of berries, each weighing 1.5–2 g and measuring about 1 cm in diameter. The fruits ripen from July to August and are appreciated for their sweet, juicy flavour and dessert quality.

Key fruit characteristics:

  • large, firm and very sweet

  • perfect for fresh eating, freezing and preserves

  • ripen evenly over several weeks

  • stable, abundant crops every year

Growing requirements – how to ensure ideal conditions

To keep Denise Blue healthy and productive, it is important to provide the right site and soil.

Main requirements:

  • sunny position, with light shade from the south on very hot days

  • acidic soil (pH below 5.5), fertile and well‑drained

  • constant, moderate soil moisture

  • possibility to enrich the soil with compost or well‑rotted manure

  • avoid frost pockets

  • responds very well to mulching with pine bark

The variety is frost‑resistant down to –30°C, making it perfectly suited to colder climates.

Planting and care – simple rules, excellent results

Plant blueberries in spring or autumn. Shrubs should be spaced 1.5–2.5 m apart to allow proper growth.

Care guidelines:

  • plant about 5 cm deeper than the root ball

  • use acidic peat and conifer sawdust as soil amendments

  • mulch regularly with pine bark

  • perform sanitary pruning during the first 3 years

  • from the 4th year, introduce thinning cuts

  • use fertilizers dedicated to blueberries

  • a mature shrub should have 6–8 strong main shoots
