American blueberry Elizabeth belongs to the highbush blueberry varieties. It is considered the tastiest among them.
In Western Europe, it is valued for its late and abundant fruiting. It is especially recommended for commercial plantations, but also for gardens and amateur cultivation. The shrub grows very vigorously, reaching a height of 160-180 cm. The location should be sunny, sheltered from the wind, and the soil should be well-drained. Blueberries prefer acidic soil. Blueberries like plenty of moisture, but they do not like being waterlogged.

Fruits: Very large, round, slightly flattened, light blue, covered with a white bloom, gathered in small, loose clusters. The flesh is greenish, firm, sweet-winy, aromatic, and tasty. They ripen from the end of August to the end of September. They do not lose aroma and flavor until the end of summer. Suitable for fresh consumption, preserves, and freezing. The variety forms compact bushes, 1.5–2 m high, with an upright habit. Blueberries require another bush for pollination, therefore it is recommended to plant them in groups. The best varieties to plant together with this one are Bluecrop, Bluegold, or Legacy. Application: Plant blueberry bushes at 1.5 m intervals. Before planting, it is worth adding non-deacidified high peat to the soil. After planting, mulch with bark or conifer sawdust. The variety is fully frost hardy, resistant to –28 °C to –34 °C. Fruiting: Begins flowering at the end of May. Fruits begin to ripen at the end of August, with a ripening period of about 3 weeks. Yields reach 6 kg per bush. Fruits are large, aromatic, and very tasty, collected in loose clusters (similar to Spartan). Ripe fruits remain long on the bushes without falling; harvested by hand. Care: Sunny to semi-shaded sites, sheltered from wind. Well suited for cultivation near forests. Soil should be humus-rich, light, permeable, acidic (pH 3.5–4), and moist. Due to high water requirements during the growing season, groundwater level should be fairly high (40–60 cm). In dry periods, regular watering is necessary. Pruning: Do not prune blueberries after planting. The first corrective pruning is done after four years. Until then, only dry or diseased shoots are removed. Older bushes require intensive pruning. Fruits are well-suited for transport.
