Brigitta is an Australian highbush blueberry variety considered one of the most promising large-fruited cultivars. The site should be sunny, sheltered from the wind, and the soil well-drained. Blueberries prefer acidic soil. They like plenty of moisture, but do not tolerate waterlogging.
Brigitta is an Australian highbush blueberry variety considered one of the most promising. It is very productive and bears large, tasty, crunchy berries of excellent quality. It is especially valued for its late fruiting and long storage potential.
Use: The berries are recommended primarily for fresh consumption. They store very well and for a long time at low temperatures and are suitable for storage in controlled atmosphere facilities. It grows very vigorously and reaches a height of 180–200 cm.
Flowering and fruiting: It forms many flower buds fairly evenly distributed on the shoots. White or pink flowers appear in May. It is a late-ripening variety, ripening starts two weeks after 'Bluecrop' and just before 'Darrow', with harvesting in August. The fruits are large, round, firm, crunchy, slightly tangy, light blue, smooth, and covered with a waxy bloom. The flesh is green, with a small, dry stem scar. Blueberries contain no fat or cholesterol. Leaves are small, dark green with a characteristic burgundy hue, sharply pointing upwards.
Care: Requires a warm, sunny, wind-sheltered position. Acidic soil with a pH of 3.5–4, permeable and moist. Due to its long growing season, it should be cultivated in lighter soils. Highly frost-resistant down to -24°C, but due to its Australian origin, it has higher heat requirements — incompletely lignified shoots may freeze during severe frosts.
