‘Chandler’ is an extremely productive highbush blueberry variety producing the largest fruits among blueberry cultivars. The ripening period is extended and lasts up to 4–6 weeks. This variety is recommended mainly for fresh consumption as a valuable source of vitamins. It is a strong-growing shrub reaching about 1.5 m in height. Frost resistance up to -34°C.
Use: The fruits are intended mainly for fresh consumption, but are also suitable for processing.
Flowering and fruiting: The shrub flowers late and for a very long time; the flowers are bell-shaped, white or white-pink. The variety is famous for its exceptionally large fruits – their diameter usually exceeds 2 cm and their weight is about 2 g, often more than 2.5 cm in diameter. The fruits are blue, tasty and firm. Yield is high and regular. The fruits ripen gradually; the fruiting period falls at the turn of July and August.
Care: Prefers a sunny, sheltered position. The soil should be acidic (pH 3.8–4.8), light and well-drained. Blueberries like plenty of moisture but do not tolerate waterlogging.
