Very early blueberry variety with sweet, aromatic fruits. Frost-hardy shrub up to 1–2 m. Requires acidic soil and a sunny position.
‘Earliblue’ is a frost-hardy, highbush blueberry variety that grows to a height of about 1–2 m. It is easy to grow and does not cause major cultivation problems. Blueberries are self-pollinating, but for higher yields it is recommended to plant two varieties with a similar ripening time close to each other.
Use: An upright-growing shrub suitable for container cultivation. The fruits are perfect both for fresh consumption and for processing.
Flowering and fruiting: ‘Earliblue’ is the earliest ripening blueberry variety. From May, the shrub is decorated with white and pink flowers. In July they are replaced by aromatic, round, blue fruits. The berries are sweet with a slightly tart note, medium to large in size. Yields are moderate.
Care: Prefers a sunny, wind-protected position. Soil should be well-drained, humus-rich, acidic and slightly moist. Mulching the soil around the shrub with sawdust or conifer bark is recommended.
