The habit is slightly “weeping” due to delicate, thin, drooping branches. It grows quickly, reaching 20–25 m in height and 7–9 m in width. The bark on young shoots is dark, later turning white and smooth, peeling in rings, while on old trees it becomes deeply cracked. The leaves are light green, glabrous, small, 3–7 cm long, ovate-rhomboid or triangular, with a sharp tip. The leaves develop early in spring and turn yellow in autumn. This tree is typical of barren, dry, sandy areas, but grows well under all conditions. It requires plenty of light. It tolerates air pollution very well but does not like to be transplanted.
