Fagus sylvatica L.
The European beech, also called the common beech, is one of the most beautiful native trees, with a broad, rounded crown. In open areas, it reaches 25 m in height and width. The bark is grayish and smooth. The leaves are green and glossy, turning yellow or reddish-brown in autumn. It has high site requirements, preferring fertile, fresh soils with a constant groundwater level. Grows well in sunny or shady positions. Tolerates pruning well. Suitable for hedges, as well as for planting in parks and large gardens.
