Ottawa Barberry ‘Superba’ is a shrub with intensely red foliage that provides a vivid garden accent throughout the season. It reaches about 3 meters in height and forms a wide, dense habit. In spring it produces small yellow flowers, and in autumn red berries develop on the shoots, remaining decorative until winter.

Site and soil

It performs best in full sun, where the foliage gains its deepest color. It also grows in partial shade, though the color becomes more muted. It prefers well-drained soil and tolerates urban conditions and occasional drought.

The plant is easy to grow and requires no complicated maintenance. In spring it is advisable to remove weakened shoots to encourage even growth.
